Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a disorder that occurs mainly in toy breeds between 5 and 12 weeks of age. A hypoglycemia attack is often precipitated by stress and can occur without warning. It also cause of being too cold or over handled. You must make sure they eat their food well. It is a real threat to tiny puppies, watch for your puppy to become tired or droopy. The first signs are listlessness, depression, muscular weakness and pale gums & tongue. If you leave the puppy with hypoglycemia for long time, it may cause of seizures.
If your puppy has any symptoms of hypoglycemia, you must give Nutri-cal, Nutri-drop (this is the best), honey or syrup quickly. It will put the blood sugar level close to normal. You have to keep puppy in a warm place and don’t let it because chilled. You should be taken to the veterinarian at once.
You have to watch out your new puppy be carefully. Few first day, they can get very sick if they stop eating. Keep dry food and water available at any time. Do not allow the puppy to overtire at first.
